King Mansolain has reigned for more than a thousand years. Now he is old and tired. To keep his heart beating, Hare introduces one animal after another to tell a story so intriguing that it makes the King long to hear the next one. One by one the animals come to tell their tales – the fierce wolf, the chattering squirrel, the threeheaded dragon and the mighty lion. Last of all comes the dwarf; he prophesies that the King could live another thousand years, but only if the Wonder Doctor arrives in time.
